Join Tananarive Due, winner of the American Book Award, NAACP Image Award, and British Fantasy Award, as she discusses her writing and explores the genres of Black Horror and Afrofuturism. Recommended for ages 14+.
A book signing will follow the author talk. Bring your own book or purchase one at the Friends of the Library table. Free and open to all.
A leading voice in Black speculative fiction for more than 20 years, Tananarive Due (tah-nah-nah-REEVE doo) is an award-winning author and producer who teaches Black Horror and Afrofuturism courses at UCLA. Her latest work, The Reformatory, was named a New York Times Notable Book and an ALA Notable Book and received the Bram Stoker Award for Best Novel, and the Los Angeles Times 2023 Book Prize for Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Speculative Fiction.

Dive into a world of mystery, friendship, and sunny adventures with Kim Dwinell, author and illustrator of the Surfside Girls graphic novel series, now a hit Apple TV+ show! In this lively talk, Dwinell shares the journey behind Surfside Girls and her career as a Disney animation artist on classics like Hercules and Mulan.

Kim Dwinell is the author and illustrator of the Surfside Girls graphic novel series (Top Shelf/ IDW) and was a consultant on the Apple TV+ streaming show based on the series. She got her start as an animation artist during the 2D animation boom of the 1990s, working on Hercules and Mulan at Disney, Cats Don't Dance at Turner, and The Swan Princess for Rich Animation.
