In this illustrated presentation, renowned art historian Frances Pohl of Pomona College, investigates several paintings by Winslow Homer in which he attempts to represent the complex roles played by African Americans during the Civil War.  Dr. Pohl has written two books and several essays on American artist Ben Shahn.
