For tweens and teens grades 6-12
Come over to the Thousand Oaks Library to learn, present, create, and explore computer science as our members traverse through the vast field of programming. Members will learn how to program using Java and work together to create software with the group, as well as being able to create, present, and see other personal/group projects on a regular basis.
Taught by TOTAL Program Leadership teen volunteer Safwan.
*Students please bring your own laptop to each Coding Club session, as you will be coding in the class on your laptop. Make sure your laptop can access WiFi. If you are unable to bring your own laptop with WiFi access, please email librarian kkiefer@tolibrary.org to see if we can arrange for you to borrow a laptop during Coding Club sessions.
The Coding Club will serve as a way for students, whether they are experienced or beginners to Computer Science (CS), to explore coding through multiple and varied sessions. Our club will be able to educate through substantial but entertaining lessons and actual individual/group programming experiences. Programming is an art that is most easily mastered as you keep on doing more and more of it, and the fusion of both traditional schooling and hands-on activities will ensure the creation of tech and CS gurus in our club. Experienced coders that join will also be able to benefit from the ability to present their own applications, discuss the current world of CS, and endure the cycle of feedback and live commentary that will take place after our other activities are finished. Members will constantly participate as they suggest and implement their own ideas for programming as well as create and display their capabilities later on.
Please do your best to attend every meeting. If you miss 4 meetings we will remove your reservation from the class.
Students must join or attend in the first 3 meetings, and no new students taken after meeting #3.
Meetings will occur every other week
