On Thursday March 23rd, from 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., stop by and meet your Thousand Oaks Police Chief Tim Hagel and Fire Chief Ted Smith at The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf at the Oaks Mall.
What's on your mind? The chiefs want to sit down and have a cup of coffee or tea with you. Over the last four years these casual, spontaneous discussions between community members and the chiefs has led to numerous resolutions of community issues that would otherwise have not surfaced.
In 2016, the Thousand Oaks Police Department responded to nearly 21,000 calls for service while the Fire Protection District had approximately 12,000 responses. Your law enforcement officers work specific neighborhoods or patrol areas, day in and day out. These patrol areas are called beats. This system of community policing allows officers to really learn and interact with the community and citizens they serve. Your Fire Protection District has numerous stations throughout your community to enhance their availability to each region. This structure is only part of the issue. However, it takes more than that. It takes even greater partnerships between public safety and the community.
Come share your concerns of your neighborhood, openly, over a free cup of coffee. Be a part of the reason that this is such a safe and desirable community. We encourage you to share your ideas and thoughts.
